A recent user survey conducted by e-INFRA CZ confirms the essential role its computing services play in advancing research across the Czech Republic. Feedback was provided by 297 respondents from 50 institutions. The feedback highlights both the popularity and the importance of services such as MetaCentrum GRID, OpenStack Cloud, Kubernetes, Sensitive Cloud, and HPC resources provided by IT4Innovations.
The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, visited IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center at the end of May. The main topic of the visit was cutting-edge research infrastructure in the fields of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies, and its importance for the Czech Republic’s global competitiveness. The President also had the opportunity to see the Czech Republic’s only quantum computer, named VLQ.
On May 21–22, 2025, Brno hosted the Research Data Day & EOSC National Tripartite Event, gathering over 200 researchers, data specialists, and infrastructure professionals from 40 European institutions. The conference investigated the evolving interplay between scientific research and data, with particular attention to the technical and organizational challenges of preparing data for artificial intelligence applications and the further development of research infrastructures in Europe.
How artificial intelligence is reshaping research was the focus of the Google AI Leaders Connect event held on May 20 at Prague’s Martinic Palace. Attendees gained up-to-date insights into how AI shapes Czech science, the economy, and innovation. Among the highlights was a forward-looking talk by Matej Antol from CERIT-SC (Masaryk University).
Artificial Intelligence is becoming a vital tool in modern research and scientific innovation. At CERIT-SC, we now offer AI services tailored specifically for the academic community—powerful, user-friendly, and fully under your control. Our new Open WebUI platform provides secure, on-premise access to advanced language models for chatting, coding, document processing, and image generation. The interface supports multiple languages, including Czech. For developers and research teams, the same models are accessible via a documented REST API.
CERIT-SC team, part of the Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University, will be participating in the Annual High Performance Container Workshop at ISC High Performance 2025 conference, taking place in Hamburg (June, 10-13) — the premier European event for high performance computing, AI, and data analytics. As a key operator of Kubernetes infrastructure within e-INFRA CZ, CERIT-SC has been invited to present two talks based on several years of hands-on experience in containerized HPC environments.
CESNET is proud to announce a significant expansion of the national computational and storage infrastructure, strengthening support for the ELIXIR life science community in the Czech Republic. Newly procured high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and large-scale data storage systems have been deployed across key research sites and are now almost all fully integrated into MetaCentrum, the national grid infrastructure operated by CESNET.
This year, the first Czech quantum computer will be installed in IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center in Ostrava. It has been named VLQ, and the first components of this unique machine have already been delivered. One of the most important is the cryostat – a device in which the chip is subsequently placed and must be able to cool the chip to a temperature of 10 millikelvins (-273.14 degrees Celsius ), i.e. similar to a temperature in space.
AI Factories in Europe support the broader deployment of AI tools in society and industry. These include the LUMI AI Factory, which builds on the successful LUMI consortium. Until recently, this operated Europe's most powerful supercomputer, including the Czech Republic, through the National Supercomputing Centre IT4Innovations. IT4Innovations participates in all activities of the LUMI AI Factory.
